The first step is to evaluate your space. Bring a diagram for both top and bottom cabinets and evaluate each separately. Measure the room also. Be sure to check the depth of the cabinets. Most are standard but if you had custom cabinetry before you might have strange measurements.
Plan kitchen appliances and counter space first. Figure out where the sink, dishwasher, refrigerator and range will fit. Design a triangle pattern between your sink, stove and refrigerator, so that cooking and cleanup work easily. Put in a kitchen island ‐‐ either stationary or on rollers so it can be moved. Plan to store heavy pans and pots in underneath of the island pantry. Build a counter work space of granite tiles or vinyl laminate for mixing and preparing foods.
